LIVE UNITED

Underneath everything we are, underneath everything we do,
we are all people.

Connected, interdependent, united.

And when we reach out a hand to one, we influence the condition of all.

That's what it means to
LIVE UNITED.

EDUCATION

educatin_img.jpg

The Successful Children Impact Council focuses on helping youth achieve their full potential. A quality education is the springboard to a career that sustains a family through retirement and provides access to the resources needed for good health. Fresno County faces huge challenges in education that require us to work stronger together in order to support our schools and produce career- and college-ready graduates.

OUR GOAL

Reduce Fresno County ’s High School Dropout Rate by Half by 2018.

 Education_chart.jpg

  1. Enhance literacy development by increasing the number of students reading at grade level by Grade 4

  2. Increase high school graduation rates by reducing the number of youth who fail to complete high school on time

  3. Encourage “real world” learning through service and business partnerships that engage youth in the community and prepare them for post-graduate opportunities.

WHAT WE DO

The following represent the EDUCATION activities UWFC is currently involved in:

  •   Central Valley Book Bank
All over the country, United Ways are mobilizing communities around education challenges. In Fresno County , the Central Valley Book Bank’s vision is to ensure every child has access to the age-appropriate books they need to become proficient readers. CVBB provides free children’s books to schools and non-profit organizations serving low-income and disadvantaged populations. Our mission is to act as a resource for programs dedicated to developing a desire to read and improving reading skills while enhancing classroom and home libraries.
  •    Day of Action
Held every year on June 21 (the longest day of the year), this event creates opportunities for volunteers to share their passion for reading with youth in summer programs. Books are collected from the Central Valley Book Bank and are distributed to various comunity centers. The participating youth are encouraged to take home books so that they may continue practicing literacy in home and at school.
